Bishop Jack Kaising, 70, died on Saturday of a heart attack in
Washington, DC.

Bishop Jack Kaising
Bishop Jack has been a dedicated priest working in WWME for more
than 25 years, serving as a Presenting Team priest, part of many
Leadership Ecclesial Teams, a Cadre Priest, a key participant on
several Convention Outline Committees, many other roles and most
recently as our WWME Episcopal Moderator since January, 2005. Following
his ordination as Auxiliary Bishop of the Military Services in 2000,
he continued to serve both his new worldwide archdiocese and WWME
in many ways. In his most recent role, he was an avid supporter
of WWME to all the Bishops who serve on the U.S. Conference of Catholic
Bishops (USCCB).
In addition to all these WWME roles, Bishop Jack was an inspiring
man to know, a good friend to many couples and priests, as well
as a dedicated priest who firmly supported our WWME mission.
A native of Cincinnati and a graduate of Elder
School, The Athenaeum
of Ohio, and Xavier
University, Bishop Kaising was ordained to the priesthood at
St.
Peter in Chains Cathedral on December 22, 1962. Father Kaising
served as a chaplain in the United States Army between August 1969
and June 1998 when he retired as a full colonel. During his military
duty he served in several army posts throughout the United States,
the Pacific, Germany and a year in Vietnam. In February 2000, after
a year and half as pastor of St.
Dominic Parish in Delhi Township, he was appointed by Pope John
Paul II as auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese
for Military Services USA.
Bishop Kaising’s awards and decorations include the Legion
of Merit with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star with One Oak
Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters,
the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement
Medal.
